The photograph on the left was taken in Kalamazoo, MI in 2012 after Scott Thrasher completed his very first day servicing VexGuard first customers. 

After working for several years at one of the larger national pest control companies, Scott began to notice a significant gap in the market. He saw that there was a real need for a more personalized and customer-focused pest control service—one that could go beyond the standard, one-size-fits-all solutions. Scott realized that many companies in the industry were focused on volume and efficiency, but they were often neglecting the individual needs of their customers and the unique challenges each property faced.

Driven by a desire to make a real difference, Scott decided to branch out on his own. The journey wasn’t easy, and at first, Scott was faced with the daunting task of creating a brand from scratch. He spent countless hours brainstorming, but every “good” name he could think of was already taken. Eventually, after much thought, he landed on the name “VexGuard.” The name was a blend of his favorite pest control TV show and his own background in security and law enforcement—two elements that resonated deeply with him and his vision for the company.

At the time, Scott thought the road ahead would be long and challenging, filled with hurdles like finding customers and building brand recognition. But, to his surprise, the story of VexGuard quickly gained traction. It wasn’t just about offering excellent pest control services—it was Scott’s attention to detail, his friendly demeanor, and his genuine care for each customer’s individual needs that made all the difference. People were not only impressed by his knowledge and expertise but also by the personal touch he brought to every service call.

What Scott didn’t expect was that his customers would become his most powerful marketing tool. Word-of-mouth recommendations quickly became the backbone of his business. His customers, delighted by the quality of the service and the way Scott went above and beyond, became natural advocates for the brand. They eagerly shared their positive experiences with their family, friends, and neighbors, spreading the word about VexGuard without any prompting from the company.
