A lot of Plainwell’s houses near downtown have some age on them, and older wood near a river stays damp: sill plates, porch posts, window frames and the edges of old additions. Carpenter ants nest in exactly that kind of wood. If you see large black ants inside at night, or little piles of what looks like sawdust, call before spring turns into summer. Mosquitoes along the Riverwalk
Hicks Park, Fannie Pell Park and Sherwood Park all sit along the river and the Mill Race, and so do plenty of backyards. Slow water and shaded banks mean mosquitoes from late May on. Yard treatments target the shrubs and shade where they rest during the day.
Mice after harvest in Gun Plain Township
Outside the city, Gun Plain Township is fields and woodlots. When the crops come off and the nights get cold, mice head for garages, basements and pole barns. Snap traps and bait in the right spots, plus garage bait stations on the Home Defense plan, keep them from settling in for the winter.

Do you service Plainwell and Gun Plain Township?

I see big black ants in my kitchen at night. Are those carpenter ants?
Probably. Carpenter ants are large, black or black-and-red, and most active after dark. A few inside in spring usually means a nest in damp wood nearby, sometimes in the house itself. I’ll find where they’re coming from and treat the nest, not just the trail.
Is living near the Mill Race the reason I have so many mosquitoes?
It doesn’t help. Slow-moving water and shaded banks give mosquitoes places to breed and rest. Treating the shade around your yard cuts down what you deal with on the patio, even when the water is right there.
Do I need to be home for the treatment?
Not for exterior work. For an inside treatment or a first inspection, I’ll set a time that works for you.
